Morning Glorious

Yesterday morning when I woke up and realized that I had not heard a rainstorm capable of delivering one to two inches during the night, I was disappointed.

And then I went to let the dog, and the morning glories took my breath away.

The blooms covered the trellis from top to bottom. It's a little hard to tell in this picture but I've got two vines, one on either end, each filled with flowers. We'd obviously gotten enough rain to make them--and by extension me--happy.

A friend gave me the morning glories seedlings in the spring. They looked so frail I really didn't think they would survive transplanting, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to plant them. At the very least, I thought they could fill in the trellis while I was waiting for the passion vine to fill grow.

Instead, the morning glories have become my summer star providing regular blooms in an otherwise bleak landscape of plants struggling for mere survival.

  1. Yay for your morning glories! They apparently work hard for crumbs (in this case, a few sprinkles.)

BTW, are you still collecting wine bottles? Should I be saving mine for you?

  2. Every bloom is precious this summer, Vertie - that's a nice bright moring greeting and I'm glad you got a little rain.

My blue pea vines had a late start but are now opening a few flowers - if you want to mix blue in with your pink let me know.

  3. Wow! That's quite a show. My morning glories are looking terrible, yellowish, and bug-eaten this year.

  4. They never fail but to delight when they are in the right place--but give them too much water and they will drive you crazy-year after year- as they pop up in all the wrong places.

  5. oh - your photos are glorious, too! I especially like the one shot up to the sky with the clouds as backdrop. EMPTY clouds, I might add. I was so disappointed to have rain-us interruptus. Sigh. I guess we will just have to wait til October!

  6. It's nice to see a flower looking so glorious in this weather and requiring so little.
